This past weekend, Onboard travelled to Montafon, Austria for the Nike Snake and Hammers Banked slopestyle where we asked Max Buri to guest film Kevin Bäckström tanking it down the course top to bottom.

The Snake and Hammers is a truly rad event, combining banked turns with whoops, kickers, hips and even rails. Kevin was riding the course super well and when we tried following him for a run, we realised that we’d have no chance in hell keeping up (these guys are professionals after all…).

Instead, we roped in Swiss all-terrain killer Max Buri for filming duties and he did his best to keep on Kevin’s heels. But even he struggled to keep up with Kev through the first set of whoops, which you’ll see Kevin gap in the vid (he was doing sick backside 180s over the same gap in finals).

Both Kevin and Max made it to finals, with Kevin taking third place overall and ‘Best Hammer’ for his super clean frontside 720 over the big kicker. Stay tuned for our full gallery and report coming soon!

About our Top To Bottom series: We think that a lot can be said about a person’s snowboarding if you give them the freedom to interpret the mountain in their own way. This season we’ll be following a bunch of riders for one run of their choice. Be it a rail line, kicker line, or just a side hit run, we think that once in a while it’s important to strip back all of the extra stuff that you see in edits these days and present snowboarding as you or I would see it on the mountain. We’ve opted to ditch music and fancy editing and present one continuous run of raw, honest snowboarding. We hope you dig ‘em.
