HACKED – Valérian Ducourtil

The latest subject of our hard drive hacking is one of France’s premiere backcountry freestyle talents – Monsieur Valérian Ducourtil. The footy we swiped contained an abundance of pow stomps as you’d expect, but also burger flipping, an excellent slam montage and pooping au naturel

Valé grew up as a young buck on the French junior team, bouncing from contest to contest with peers like Victors De Le Rue and Daviet, and Arthur Longo. With skills honed sessioning the parks of the planet, he called time on his bib boarding fairly early and focussed his attentions on getting more into backcountry freestyle – and it’s safe to say he hasn’t looked back.

“Slowly but surely, I started feeling that I was losing appetite for contests,” he remembered when we interviewed him a few years back. “I was not happy with the format. So I needed to do something else and to reclaim some sort of freedom that is, for me, really essential in snowboarding.

Initially he filmed with What We Want films (check his part from Incoming) before moving onto being a part of the Almo Film crew, scoring a solid part in their movie, Comfort Zone. He also linked up with longtime sponsor Vans for their memorable Landline Japan project.

This past winter Valé spent his time chasing pow around his local haunts, as well as taking a Volcom trip to Chamonix and a mission or two with the Rusty Toothbrush crew, so we’re eager to see what nuggets of gold he drops next autumn. Plus, of course, there’s been the recent John Doe Session in Les Arcs that he helps organise which, by all accounts, went off as ever.

In the meantime, though, dive into another glitchy display of riding and random footy from the road as Valérian Ducourtil gets HACKED
