Helen Schettini one of a handful of snowboarders who are leading the charge in the world of female backcountry freestyle. She kills it in the Whistler backcountry and becomes the first female rider on the stacked Adidas snowboarding team.
Helen grew up in Kamloops, BC before moving West to Whistler to pursue her love for snowboarding at the age of 7. Once there, her talent became pretty obvious at a young age and soon she was killing it in contests. Eventually she discovered how much potential there was in Whistler outside the park and once she bought a sled, became pretty hooked on adventuring out into the wilderness.
Learning to handle a sled and everything that comes with that aspect of snowboarding was a steep learning curve but after taking her fair share of tumbles, she was soon bossing it, hitting big cliffs and always pushing her riding further.
Of course, talent like that doesn't stay unnoticed for long (at least, it shouldn't) and Helen landed a spot on the elite YES. Snowboards team alongside dudes like DCP and Romain de Marchi. This only helped to push her snowboarding even further, and today she's one of only a handful of women really stepping it up out there.
Adidas are clearly pretty stoked to have her as the first female rider on their heavy snowboard team and we look forward to seeing more from her in the coming seasons. Be sure to watch her Welcome to Adidas edit above to see exactly why she deserves that spot on the team.
