The man that's more Mad Max than Tom Hardy on a nosebag of coke is back with a teaser for his new film 'Degrees North'. Having decided that anywhere with dial-up internet connection is too mainstream, Xavier de le Rue has travelled to Svalbard off the coast of Northern Norway, to find some of the most technically challenging terrain the planet has to offer.

Just to give yourself an idea of how north Svalbard is, just take a look at this real quick. Basically, it's really, really, really far north. He's joined by snowboarder Ralph Backstrom, a grizzled Freeride World Tour competitor and very talented backcountry rider. They're also joined by mountaineer/skier Samuel Anthamatten, who is a dab hand and the whole skiing malarkey.

One of the things that strikes us about this project is simply how much effort needs to go into staying alive. There's no helicopters to fly you out if you get ill, there's no hospital that you can be rushed to if it all goes wrong. Even just making sure you've got drinking water can be a 3 hour job - then, to go and tackle some of the most technically demanding ascents and descents in the world is something that's difficult to fathom.

The full film from Swatch and The North Face will make up the 3rd installment of Xavier's 'Missions' series, and will drop in autumn 2015.
