France has long held a reputation for, well, having shitty parks. There, I said it. In black and white.
But it's true, at least when you compare them to what the neighbours are up to. Switzerland has the crown jewel Laax, but even the likes of Verbier are upping their rail line game these days. Of course, Austria has acres of perfectly groomed jumps, berms and pipes that fill the spaces between dairy farms. But France... vite vite guys.
However, this year Avoriaz seems to have pushed the boat out, albeit with limited resources. With enough snow to make the tenth anniversary of The Stash go off in style, and they've also really upped their junior park game with a blinder of a kids run for 2018.
But the feather in the cap has to be the Pipe Grounds set up made for the end of season Natural Games bash, a half kilometer of flowing jumps, quarters, rails and two halfpipes blended into one via spines, hips and even a cradle. Not only is the set up insane, it's rideable without fear of death, and many are calling it the best park France has seen in years.
So when Sparrow Knox came to visit, we just had to give him a quick tour in the morning before the cruel midday sun started to slow the proceedings down.
Tasked with reviewing a new 360 camera for our sister channel Whitelines, we thought there was no better person to capture using the tech's unique perspective - so here is the closest to a real Sparrow's eye view of cruising Avoriaz as we could muster.
