In case you haven't already heard about the Bob Costas shitstorm that's been doing the rounds on the internet, here's a little round up for you.

Who the hell is this Costas chap anyway? We were asking ourselves the very same thing when NBC dropped this vomit-on-chin-dribble inducing '12 days of Sochi' crock of worthlessness.

Well, turns out he's a pretty big deal/dinosaur over in the U-S of A, having headed up a whole bunch of NBC's sports coverage since like the 70s or something.

In a recent interview for NBC, Costas likened slopestyle, the newest addition to the Winter Olympics and an event that is very dear to us, to Jonny Knoxville and Jackass. The exact quote being:

“I think the president of the IOC should be Johnny Knoxville, because basically, this stuff is just ‘Jackass’ stuff that they invented and called Olympic sports."

Thankfully for snowboarding, Todd Richards, who does the shred commentary on NBC and was a boss at snowboarding himself back in the day, was quick to voice his distaste:

"Let me get this straight: All the sacrifices of body and mind I and countless others have made to progress the discipline of slopestyle have now been reduced to the byproduct of an MTV show ... by someone that is 'hosting' the Olympics? On behalf of NBC's snowboarding coverage team I apologize to everyone in the sport. This does not represent the feelings of the people that work hard to bring you the snowboarding broadcasts."

Mega bossman Sage Kotsenburg also commented:

We just got in the Olympics, and already we have guys who know nothing about the history of our sport telling us we're just a bunch of jackasses? That's pretty demeaning. That wasn't even slopestyle they showed during that interview, it was Shaun [White] riding halfpipe.

Of course, this isn't the first time that snowboarding has been on the receiving end of such mindless ignorance from otherwise well respected mainstream presenters. You may recall the BBC's horse-loving bint Clare Balding's comparable remarks on snowboarding from the 2006 Turin Olympics that were something along the lines of: "This isn't a sport is it? They dont take it seriously, where's the competition? And look at their baggy clothes!"

In short, mainstream sports commentators really should continue creaming themselves over curling and cross country skiing (no disrespect to those sports of course), and keep their mouths shut on things they know absolutely nothing about.

Oh, and Bob Costas is a muppet.

Here's a summary of the whole drama by Epic TV which also features a quote from Onboard's very own Ed in Chief Tom:
