Marcus Kleveland Lands Quad Cork 1800

Backside quadruple cork 1800 gorilla grab

The young Norwegian prodigy Marcus Kleveland has only gone and nabbed himself a backside quadruple cork 1800, making him the third person in the world to dip four times in one air on a snowboard, and the second after Billy Morgan to stick this particular variation, though this one came with a double grab.

The above was shot in Stubai on the monster (and fairly expensive to use) Prime Line, paid for by national teams in this period of pre-season training. We were actually out there last week with Team GB coach Hamish McKnight, who we asked if he thought the 43 degree, 120-foot beast was big enough to rip a quad off: “Yeah, but you’d have to have balls of steel.”

Please – before you start beating your keyboard with your forhead in frustration – this does not mean you can’t watch floaty backside 180s anymore. This is just one avenue of the vast and wonderful world of snowboarding. For the complete opposite end of the spectrum just watch this rad carving edit from Korua we posted yesterday.

There will still be powder turns, there will still be methods and there will still be street edits from your favourite crews. People will push the envelope in all directions – it’s the nature of the game – and we for one think what the top level of contest riders are achieving off park jumps right now is sick. Congrats Marcus!
