RENE RINNEKANGAS – HOMEMADE: 10 DAYS IN IISALMI

Rene Rinnekangas is one of our favourite young riders to watch, so check out this edit of 10 days in his hometown with the homies…

Rene is fun. He makes his snowboarding look fun, but he’s also ridiculously good at it – one of those guys that makes serious riding still look like a blast.

As we wrote when announcing him in our European Rider of the Year awards, “We first had our heads turned by Rene Rinnekangas’s riding back in 2014, when a new Finnish DIY film crew – 292CREW – broke onto the scene. In their first movie, Haloo, there was a pint-sized, 14-year old Rene holding down a legit part filled with street and park hammers. From that first introduction it was clear that, as well has having a bunch of solid tricks in his bag, he was also well-versed in the more subtle art of style.”

It’s well worth checking out his early video parts to see the seeds for the success he’s enjoying now were there from grommethood. There’s no coincidence that a ton of well-respected riders and industry fold pointed out Rene as one of their favourite up-and-coming young riders (he ended up in third spot in the Rookie category of our European Ride of the Year awards). Since then, the wider world of snowboarding was given a lesson in Rinnekangas’s approach to snowboarding when he dropped a super-creative run through the pipe as part of the Dew Tour Team Challenge, not to mention continuing to regularly drop the snackable gold dust on his Instagram feed.

Like many riders of his ilk, a big part of Rene’s winter was focussed on getting to and throwing down at the PyeongChan Olympics, but with that wrapped up he’s been back on the filming tip. Towards the end of the winter he linked up with some fellow Finnish riders and filmers to produce this ‘Homemade’ edit. Filmed in just 10 days in his home town of Iisalmi (who seem pretty proud of their boy), it’s a bunch of serious yet fun streetboarding with some serious yet fun style.
