Watch Japanese snowboard prodigy Hiroto Ogiwara chuck frontside and backside 1080s at the age of 9... pretty mind blowing stuff!
We get sent a LOT of season edits over the course of the year, and it's not difficult to see that the kids are getting younger and younger every year, but this one from 9 year old Hiroto Ogiwara was seriously impressive.
It all begs the question of whether the age vs. ability line be pushed any younger
We've become more and more accustomed to seeing pre-pubescents kill it on their boards, but it's a far rarer occurrence to see a kid with such solid style. Hirato gets his grabs, minimises the window-winding and has clearly been taking notes from Torstein Horgmo's edits.
It all begs the question of whether the age vs. ability line be pushed any younger than this. Personally, we don't think it really can because the core strength and fine motor control it takes to do something like a 1080 is just not there in the really young kids.
Who knows though - if there's one thing that we've learnt over the past few weeks with the breaching of the quad cork floodgates, it's to never say never.
