Katie Ormerod Lands the First Ever Female Backside Double Cork 1080

We heard the rumours back at the start of May and have been eagerly awaiting the footage of 16 year old British snowboarder Katie Ormerod‘s backside double cork 1080 – the first ever landed by a female rider. It’s finally here and it’s every bit as amazing as we’d imagined.

After properly sending it on her first attempt, and taking a nasty slam to the face, Katie got her speed and rotation dialled and put down a completely legit back 10 dub.

The backside double cork 1080 has been a staple in men’s slopestyle runs for the last 4-5 seasons, but up until this point has yet to be landed by a female rider. Katie, of course, was one of the first female riders to land a straight double backflip on a park kicker, with Aimee Fuller and Anna Gasser also landing their own double-underflip variations.

The back 10 double is a remarkable achievement for Katie, and women’s snowboarding for that matter. How long will it be before we see the trick being chucked by women in slopestyle contests? Keep your eye on Miss Ormerod – after just missing out on a spot at Sochi 2014 and already being well versed in slopestyle competition, the future is looking very bright for her indeed.
