When The Mountains Were Wild – Full Film

A freeride journey to the Albanian Alps

You might think you’re getting down with nature when you hike a few hundred feet from the piste and find yourself in a field with only the marmot tracks for company, but the reality is that you’re normally still just a stones throw from the fray. Queues of people paying too much for chips, mega chairlifts and hotels – a million things that just weren’t there a hundred, or even fifty years ago.

That’s not to say you have to travel to the other side of the world to find a truer wilderness, however, as Austrian freeride legend Mitch Tölderer sets out to prove on this team mission to Albania.

We caught up with the man himself to talk about the project and you can find our interview with Mitch here; but above you’ll see the fruits of his labours alongside fellow freeriders Johannes Hoffmann & Klaus Zwirner – meeting locals, battling weather, stretching rations and being snowed under in a mountain hut, all on their search for something in a bit more of a classic adventure.

Taking you back to a time when everything you wanted wasn’t a web click away, here it is in full: When the Mountains Were Wild.
