El NorKato – BigOSnowboards Full Movie

The Polish boys at Bigosnowboards just dropped their new movie, featuring a bunch of heavy urban ripping – mainly shot in Poland, backed up with a few hammers from Oslo. We caught up with rider/owner Kuba Dytkowski to get the lowdown…

Can you give us a bit of info about your new movie?

It’s January 21 2017, one day after the big O jam competition. The day saw the season’s first snowfall in Wpkiw, in Chorzów, so all the dudes made their way to the park. It was a beautiful, sunny day, in the cold frost and we spent the whole day building spots and doing tricks, which totally motivated us to make this movie. Three Bigosnowboards riders – lifelong friends myself (Kuba Dytkowski), Radek Cząstkiewic and Tomek Zielony – recorded tricks whenever we found time, and this formed the basis of the movie.

I would pursue the long drive from Warsaw to his hometown in Silesia, where Tomek and Maciej (the cameraman) would await his arrival to capture the weekend’s action. Radek who emigrated to Oslo together with our bro Kajtek Kaleniak (who also take part in the film), took advantage of the local conditions and found awesome locations to film in. In the end I flew to Oslo for five days and finalised the movie.

What’s the deal with Big O Snowboards? How long have you guys been around?

In 2012, I obtained investment to create a new snowboarding brand. Bigosnowboards was born and was built to appeal to us riders the most. Over the last five years we have realised every snowboarder’s dream: designing, manufacturing and promoting our ideal equipment.
We created bigosnowboards as a brand for true riders based on our own experience since 1999. Our brand is driven through honest style and experience all brought together through the thoughts and culture of our homies.

How was winter in Poland last year? And how’s it starting this time round?

Winter was not a blast. The first snowfall we had last season was in the beginning of January 2017, with about 10cm of snow lasting around five weeks. With only weekends to shoot on, that left us with only 10 days of actual footage to work with.

We started this season surprisingly early, at the beginning of December 2017, with a two-day session. Unfortunately the conditions have been pretty shit so far since. We are eagerly awaiting better conditions as there has been nothing but wet snow. It’s a waiting game.

How many movies have you guys made together now?

As Bigosnowboards we have made three movies, but we’ve been shooting with MEP and the same crew since 2005

Where did you mostly shoot for in this?

Our favourite spots to shoot are based around Katowice, in South-West Poland. As we are all from from the surrounding area we know all the good spots, however owing to a lack of snow it has been challenging. Oslo is our new spot, and it’s perfect as the connection from Warsaw by plane is faster than the drive to the Polish mountains.

Ok, cheers Kuba!
