Terje’s 1996 classic gets the flashback treatment today. Just watch it.
It’s hard overstate the impact Terje and his riding had – and continue to have – on snowboarding. The Sprocking Cat has been lauded to death and needless to say all the accolades are justified. He was untouchable in the pipe for a long period, he helped pioneer adapting freestyle onto the blank canvas of big mountain natural terrain, he boycotted the Olympics, was instrumental in establishing The Arctic Challenge and TTR Tour, held the highest air on a snowboard record until last year (he still has the quarterpipe one), and he’s still sending it today.
This movie is over 20 years old now, but looking at a lot of the riding, you wouldn’t necessarily know it. Sure, pipes have gotten bigger and the tricks within them more mindbending, but the backcountry freestyle on display here often still stands up. Imagine what we thought of it when it dropped more than two decades ago…
