Some Antipodean antics to whet your midweek whistle. The ODD FOLKS are an Australian group of riders currently stateside, that despite being odd, are damn fine riders. There seems to be more riders in the 03:54 edit than we thought there were Australians that actually rode snowboards, but struth can they slay rails.
The ODD FOLKS consist of Troy Sturrock, Raph Louis, Harry Green, Sam Newman, Joel Cantle, Jordan Crockford, Josh Vagne, Rocco Rachiele, Bryan Bowler and Dan ”Harry” Crean. The chaps have more bang in their buck than a bag of fruity lexia, and it sure as hell makes them sexier.
That gap to lipslide at 03:40 is the size of the Bass Straight, and don’t even get us started on the half-cab to back 5 out at 0:55.
The level of Australian riding seems to be on an exponential rise at the moment. With more and more riders choosing resorts like Thredbo or Perisher to train during the summer; the quality of snowparks has risen to meet that demand. Realistically, who wants to spend 2 weeks in a Wanaka whiteout when you can hit Perisher when it’s sunny?
This coupled with recent news of Vail Resorts acquisition of Perisher leads us to believe there’s some growing legs on the Aussie scene. If they can produce a rider like Kent Callister, who has one of the tightest methods we’ve ever seen, we’re excited to see what’s next from the sub-continent.
