The Norwegian boys who make up the Mushroom Crew are back in their summer hood of Folgefonna, and have just dropped the first of their fifth season of Fridays at Fonna. Give it a watch!
We’re big fans of Folgefonna here at Onboard. This glacier towards the southeastern park of Norway has been drawing countless rippers to its fjord-wrapped ice flows for decades and has played host to a heap of memorable moments in the sport’s history. In fact, to celebrate the recent ringing in of another season of Fonna summer shredding, we dove deep into what makes the place so special in the latest episode of our Hot Spots series. Check it out for a fuller understanding of this iconic summer shred spot.
One group of people who need no filling in on Fonna’s awesomeness, however, is the Mushroom Crew. These guys are the self-described ‘park architects’ responsible for making sure the on-hill setup is on point, and as you’ll know if you’ve checked out any footage from there in recent years they’ve certainly been bossing it. We’ve said it before but we’ll say it again – you don’t need to have a huge area with an ocean of mega-hits serviced by high-speed lifts to have a killer freestyle setup. Though Fonna’s deal is far from mediocre, it’s certainly not as all-encompassing as, say, that offered by Laax, Mottolino or many of the North American parks, but they certainly make what they’ve got work above and beyond what it might look like on paper.
And now, with another season of summer goodtimes starting to roll, the Mushroom Crew are back with the first drop of what marks their fifth season of Fridays at Fonna. The crew and the setup has evolved over the years, and will no doubt do so throughout the season, but one thing remains: if you want to get your summer shred on then Folgefonna is one of the raddest places you could choose to do so.
