Drone shots are pretty commonplace these days, but we’ve never seen anything like this before.
As part of their latest project “R3BOOT” the Shredbots teamed up with the racing drone specialists at FPV to film a very special session in the backcountry. Forget the usual lingering shots of the landscape that aerial filmmakers use to set the scene; forget even any action footage you’ve seen shot from a heli. With these little sports drones – and a skilled pilot – the guys were able to capture crazy new angles that take snowboard edits into another dimension.
The whole thing feels almost like watching a video game, and at times the rapid shifts in direction make you feel a bit sick – like you’ve been plonked into the passenger seat of a stunt plane – but there’s no denying the effect is spectacular. Since these drones are so nimble, they’re able to keep up with and even overtake a crew of heavy hitting riders which includes Torstein Horgmo, Werni Stock, Craig McMorris and Anto Chamberland.
Following on the heels of last year’s follow-cam fest Glue, it seems that technology is enabling cameras to get closer to the action than ever before, even in powder. Welcome to the future – we hope you’re strapped in.
