The 15th edition of the Burton European Open in Laax, Switzerland is full on right now, with the revised Junior event format going down today.
The new format gives the boys and girls the chance to ride alongside the riders whose place they’re trying to take over in the future, so you better watch out for them! The top two boys and girls in Pipe and Slopestyle can further challenge their idols in this weeks Semi Finals.
14-year old Frenchie Thalie Larochaix kicked some serious arse and managed to snag first place in both the girl’s Pipe and Slopestyle. In Slopestyle she shared the podium with Norwegian Hanne Kjoll Eilertsen coming in second and Paula Marcia Bocanegra from Spain taking third place.
Second place in Pipe went to the only local girl managing to settle at a podium spot, Berenice Wicki while Paula Macia Bocanegra just straight away stayed on the podium and came in third again.
Over at the boys Toby Miller left his competitors open-mouthed, scoring a 96 with a run that included a crippler, backside 5, front 9 and backside 9 in the pipe. With Cameron Chaney coming in second and Drayden Gardner in third place, it’s a full-on ‘Murican Podium.
14-year old US rider Brock Crouch expressed his feelings about making it to first place in Slopestyle by keeping it simple: “I’m super stoked!”. Drayden Gardner upped himself one podium spot and took second place, Victor Ivanov came in third.
Tomorrow’s action will feature the culmination of the qualification rounds before the Semi Finals kick off on Thursday.
