Stubai Premiere 2017 – Full Report & Gallery

Another year, another epic Stubai Premiere! Read on to check the shots and find out what you missed…

Once again, the sleepy town of Neustift was brought to life by a veritable swarm of likeminded rippers, looking to reunite with the homies, get some warm-up laps in through the park or just have a couple of cold ones in the sunshine.

With Friday offering up perfect bluebird conditions, Saturday was (thankfully) more of the same; although it has to be said that Stubai, and the Northern Alps in general, is certainly in need of a fresh dump after almost two weeks of sunshine. That said, we’d happily take visibility and slush over the freezing whiteout conditions that seem to have a habit of plaguing these early season glacier openings…

Despite the lack of snow, the park was in fantastic shape, with jumps and jibs for every ability level. The pro-line kickers were groomed to perfection, enticing a few brave souls to their promises of significant airtime and Instagram fame.

Young German rider Maxi Pressinger was throwing down, along with Stubai stalwart Sebbe de Buck and a veritable army of Horsefeathers riders. While the guys were tackling the jumps in the morning, the ladies were getting their jib on, with Nikita hosting a super progressive railjam, with a whole bunch of sick swag up for grabs.

Pretty much the entire Horsefeathers crew were in town, with global heads such as Tyler Chorlton, Eiki Helgason, Klaudia Medlova, Mans Hedberg and Antti Jussila leading a furious mob of national and local team riders through the pistes and park.

Saturday afternoon saw one of the definite highlights of the weekend – an ‘Elbows & Edges’ session hosted by eurocarve extraordinaire Tyler Chorlton. His insane heelside eurocarve never ceases to amaze. The event was open to everyone, with cash up for grabs for the best flatground tricks and carves. The fantastic concept and low barrier for entry ensured that everyone could get involved. Mr. Gigi Rüf even treated us to a couple of runs, stoking the crowds with his instantly recognisable butters and one hell of a full-circle carve.

Like every year, there was no shortage of activities to get stuck into off the hill. MoreBoards hosted a BBQ outside their store in Neustift on Saturday afternoon, offering up free beer and a chance to meet Travis Rice himself. In the evening, the masses flocked to the DorfPub for a screening of Arbor’s new team flick Cosa Nostra, before partying on into the early hours to the beats of Kidd Salute, DJ Montaro and Groove Fellaz.

By Sunday morning the weather had closed in, giving those who had gone full send the previous night a couple of extra hours to sleep off the hangover. The highlight of the day was the ‘Jib the Lib’ session hosted by (you guessed it) Lib Tech. Although the winds were howling, a solid crew of riders assembled to throw down in return for a shot at some Lib goodies. Fabian Fraidl was a definite standout, putting down his signature grabbed front boards and a mental cab 270 to back tail that had MC Henry Jackson almost weeping tears of joy. Mellow vibes, & awesome riding – a great way to wrap up the weekend.

With an amazing park set up, insane parties and a whole load of snowboarding royalty in attendance, the 9th Stubai Premiere was a blast. Get out there and rip it while it’s hot!
