It was neither a bird, nor a plane, nor was it a rocket… it was the Burton AM Tour on its way to the next contest. One weekend in Russia and the next already in France! The convoy of “Join, Create and Progress” drove back to good old Europe for the penultimate stop of this year’s Tour in Avoriaz. Last Saturday, 21 March, the “Portes du Soleil” with its resort Avoriaz in the French Alps was turned into a stage for snowboarders up to 20 years. The Burton AM Tour 2008/09 came along with another shred competition. This Swatch TTR2 Star event magnetised 33 riders from seven different nations. They all joined in with a broad smile, caused by the spring sun shining in their happy faces.
However, not everything was just happiness. The cold wind blew really strong and made the event a challenge for everybody involved. The AM Tour Crew was working for two days preparing, shaping, branding and fighting against the strongest winds. Banners and flags were forever blowing away and getting fixed again. The participants had to wrestle against the same winds during the comp. The jumps on the kickers had to be timed well and the smiles had to be kept. Together, we did it again! The AM Tour family with its many old and new faces braves all the storms! A perfect atmosphere was created and everybody was stoked…
In the finals the riding level of the participants was high. Finally, it was Billy Morgan from United Kingdom within the Junior Boys category that rocked the slope the best. His stylish Double-Backflip 180 on the big Kicker, the Backside 540 Indy grab on the Step-up and his Gap to Frontside Noseslide on the Flat-Down-Box were brilliant. In the Youth Boys category it was once more “Mr.Stylish” Tim-Kevin Ravnjak from Slovenia who was able to impress the judges the most. The Cab 540 Tailgrab and the Backside 720 on the Kickers, the smooth Gap-Air over the Gondola-Jib-Feature and the 50/50 to Frontside Boardslide on the Flat-Down-Box was his winning run. The Junior Girls category was won by Evi Van Damme from the Netherlands.
At the end of the day, the wind was gone, the smile in everybody’s face remained. Oh holy competition day, you made us all happy. Thanks! Next weekend all the pleasure goes on for this season’s last stop in Val Senales, Italy. Hope to see you there!
