Northwave has always been on the forefront of boot technology, and today they are reveling some of the secrets of their brand new high-tech liner called TF3.

Thermo-Fit Foaming for boot liners is not new to us snowboarders, but TF3 stands for Thermo-Fit Foam – 3rd generation, with target fit zones that can catalyze instantly with a heater or over time from natural body heat. And that is definately new. But that’s not all: the malleolus area is anatomically designed and reinforced with injected memory foam for better retention and comfort for the feet. There is also a brand new webbing on the liner: the loops have been positioned on the edges of the liner, while the exclusive tongue side-cut naturally adapts to the instep, thus permitting the closest fit, and distributing power of transmission all over the liner surface.

We analyzed the athletes’ movments so as to avoid the contact points and place the padding only where needed and at the right thickness to create the perfect interface, even matching the binding’s ankle strap.

Other new features on the TF3 liner:

– Power strap for an even better fit: it gives an extra prop on the upper part
of the liner and provides a more homogeneous liner closure supporting
the liner lace lock.
– Comfortable EVA footbed with side supports for better thermal insulation
and for shock absorption.
– Available also in the women’s version with a specific women’s last and
shaped-cut in the calf area.

FLEX WINDOW
The ability of creating a boot which is able to flex in a progressive way required years of studies, experience on the snow and many laboratory tests. The Flex window enhances the comfort and mobility of the foot and it perfectly represents the balance between the power of transmission and a progressive flex. The side parts of the collar area slide on the upper transferring the power in a constant way, avoiding any possible overlapping between materials which could lead to a waste of energy.

540° HEEL RETENTION SYSTEM
The boot laces pass through a pre-curved lace loop which helps the lace minimize friction. When the laces are pulled to close the boot, they are at the same time pulling the webbings where the lace loops are linked. In this way the webbings shrink around the ankle increasing heel stability. They can do this operation in a perfect way thanks to the fact that the webbing is passing through a hole from the side of the boot directing the pressure of closure all over the ankle area. The more the lace is pulled the more power will be transferred in the ankle area increasing the heel retention performance and foot stability.
