In making The Fourth Phase, Travis Rice went above and beyond his previous – already sky high – limits and Quiksilver were up to the task of kitting out himself and the film crew with gear to handle the harshest of environments that they would encounter. And there certainly were some harsh environments. Here's a look at the Travis Rice/Fourth Phase collection they created...
When Travis unloads himself on serious big mountain terrain, he’s wearing the Highline collection. This represents the apex in waterproof outerwear technology: gear that keeps warm and dry all day, every day, whatever the mountain throws at you. "Creating this film took us around the world to some of the harshest climates there are to shred in," says Travis. "Snowmobiles, sketchy local Helis and the human-powered approach placed us into the heart of constantly changing weather be it wind, ice, or just waist deep pow."
In terms of jackets, they designed two – the Forever Printed Gore-Tex and the TR Exhibition Gore-Tex – both of which are hyper waterproof and breathable, designed with bombproof durability in mind and have a multitude of functional pockets, vents and features. There's also Body Mapping insulation which, when matched up with something like the Polartec Log Hood layer underneath, helps keep you the right side of toasty.
My signature line provides everyone solid riding gear that is built for the worst but intended for the best Mother Nature has to offer!"
"I think the perfect combo of Gore-Tex® and Polartec® combined with the high-knowledge that Quiksilver has from making technical outerwear for over 30 years provides the ultimate protection against those elements," Rice states. "Let’s be honest, if you are not perfectly comfortable you are not going to be at your best and happiest! Not only can I vouch for this gear but our entire film crew put my collection to the final test as no one works harder in the backcountry. Waterproof, breathable and windproof, my signature line provides everyone solid riding gear that is built for the worst but intended for the best Mother Nature has to offer!"
For your lower extremities, the TR Invert Gore-Tex pants reads from the same script to guarantee the trident of weather protection, durability and functionality. Travis and Quik went beyond outerwear for this partnership too. Hence you find the Platinum backpack, Travis Rice Hubble goggle and Natural Travis gloves as part of the collection.
The Platinum pack has dedicated stash spots for all your backcountry necessities and more, is tough as old boots and is one of the most all-encompassing riding bags we've seen. Rice's take on the Hubble goggle has epic peripheral vision, and HD lens for improved on-hill contrast, and a slim, lightweight design. As for his gloves, again the Natural Travis use a Gore-Tex insert along with full-grain leather and some fancy Gore grip to have you geckoing grabs like your boy Trav.
And it wasn't just Travis that was looked after in the wilderness filming for The Fourth Phase; the production crew were also kitted out in Quiksilver's über tech threads and shadowed Travis clad in things like the Mamatus Gore-Tex 3L C-Knit jacket, which crams all of Quik's outerwear knowhow into one premium shred cloak.
