Onboard Magazine Kalle Ohlson - Onboard Magazine

Kalle Ohlson

Kalle Ohlson is one of the hardest working men in snowboarding. His versatility, eye-catching style and winning personality mean he is one of the few riders to have been interviewed twice by this very magazine.

Kalle placed 6th in the Xbox BDO Open in 2005 and 2nd in the Astethiker Competition in Mayerhofen in that same year. He was also featured in the Pirate Movie Production’s “Bottom Line”. Kalle won the Transition Magazine’s Best Video Part of the Year in 2011 and their Snowboarder of the Year Award in 2010.

Kalle was born on the 23rd of December, 1987, in Sweden. Unlike many of his Scandinavian contemporaries he didn’t grow up with a glacier or mountain in his back yard. His first hobby was gymnastics, snowboarding soon began to vie for time with the pommel horse and rings and it was the latter that soon dominated Kalle’s early years. He described the decision to focus on the mountain rather than the gym as the ‘best decision he ever made.’

Trained at the Malung Snowboard School, big things were expected of the Swede. It didn’t quite materalise as easily as many expected but Olsson seems to have found a home with the Pirates crew and is a staple, and often star, of much of their output.

Olsson can always be relied on to turn out some incredible moves in any kind of terrain and his ability to boss pow, rails and the park are his greatest asset. He has branched out from just riding and is keen to start organising his own events in his native Sweden and is trying to get a new park off the ground. Not bad for a failed gymnast.
