Iikka Backstrom was born in Espoo, Finland, on October 25, 1984. He developed a love for snowboarding at a tender age and enjoyed ripping down the Whistler Backcountry whilst in Canada. He was lucky enough to have the amazing Devun Walsh as a mentor and life coach and this benefitted him greatly throughout his career.
Backstrom is currently turning heads for his success with his new blog and Webisode series called Polar Opposites. Having conqurered mountains he’s now taking on the world wide web with a series that displays Backstrom’s love for snowboarding and his backcountry expertise.
The young Finn was also featured in the 2010 TransWorld Snowboarding film ‘Switch’. He was also featured in a new board promo infomercial from DC and Billy Mays.
Backstrom enjoys nothing more than heading off into the backcountry to find new lines with which to test himself. The results are there for all to see in a quickly growing filmography and definitely marks young Iikka as one to keep an eye on.
