Winter is coming on strong and all boarders and skiers have another chance to get back on their boards at the Volvo X OVER RIDE Easter 2008. With Volvo as a partner at the Freeride Cross and Slopestyle Contest there’s a fat 9,000 € up for grabs in prize money for both amateurs and international pros. From the contests in the Langwied Open Field and DC Snowpark it’s on to the night’s legendary After Parties with live acts in Kaprun Castle.
From Friday 21 March to Monday 24 March ski and snowboard slopestylers and freeriders will gather on the Kitzsteinhorn to rock the glaciers and the After Parties in the valley. On Saturday riders will give the best they’ve got in the Freeride Cross and on Sunday it goes on with the Slopestyle in the Snowpark. Anyone feeling the urge of spring should enter both contests as this is the only way to win the title of “Ruler of the Hill” and its fabulous prize of a week at the Nalu Wave Camp in Portugal. Winners of individual categories can look forward to masses of prizes and sensational prize money worth a total of 9,000 €.
The selection process
On Saturday’s Freeride Cross four riders will start at the same time on the Freeride Eldorado in the Open Field Langwied: up to 40º steep, a drop of 620 m has to be conquered over the 1.6 km stretch. The two riders placed first and second will go into the next round until the X OVER Ride Super Final. Male and female winners will be selected for both New School Ski and Snowboard.
In the Slopestyle Contest on Sunday it’s all about “Spin&Style”. It will start with a Jam format where only the best runs will be judged. The Technical Runs will be less regulated and anything goes. In the Style Runs spins are restricted to 540º and judges will be keeping a close eye on how stylish the tricks are.
Registration is limited to 80 for the Freeride Cross and 60 for the Slopestyle (half ski, half snowboard)!
Almdudler Ride with Style
While we’re still on the topic: not only performances on skis and boards will be judged on Sunday, but Almdudler Ride with Style will award a prize to the best outfit on the theme of “Freestyle in the 50s” as well. For a 30 minute session judges will evaluate both tricks and outfits equally. A total of 2,000 € worth of prize money should make it worth rummaging through Granddad’s cupboard and donning some retro gear.
Legendary After Party
In the evening the Volvo X OVER RIDE moves down to the valley and into Kaprun Castle to party. On Saturday SOUPSHOP and JERX will be rocking the ancient walls. SOUPSHOP offer up ska, punk rock and reggae while JERX (FM4 Frequency 2007) impress with sophisticated guitar and drum & bass.
On Sunday evening the winners of each contest will be celebrated with cool drinks and the best sound. The German “fun-rock” combo ACTIONTEAM will take the floor with their filthy punk rock. “Austria’s most dangerous brass band”, GUADALAJARA, will finish off the weekend party with their impressively multifaceted musical statement.
The evening is filled out with the perfect mix provided by DJs Vale, Chris Rock, Paddauz and Shantisan; the thirst-quencher at the party is of course Heineken.
In the Volvo XC ICE CAMP presented by Nokia, the guided Style Sessions in the Snowpark for skiers and boarders might just be the first step to taking part in the next X OVER Ride. Even here, though, Volvo doesn’t just value style but safety as well. A must for all Freeriders is knowing how to use an avalanche transceiver. Put yourself on the case with training in the avalanche search field on Easter Sunday where the Easter Bunny has hidden a Nokia 5610 XpressMusic. In this case speed is rewarded – the first person to find it and “rescue” it gets to keep it. Check their website for more info.
During the contests the audience can also be active testing the newest Freeride and Freestyle skis and snowboards from all the biggest names. With this the Volvo X OVER RIDE 08 is once again Europe’s biggest Freestyle/Freeride ski and snowboard test – presented by freeskiers.net
For riders and audience there is a specially organised package for a sensational weekend including accommodation, lift passes, extensive ski and snowboard tests, entry fees, an invitation to the party and many side events from just 139 €. Sign up and be a part of it!
The presenters would like to thank their supporters and sponsors for their contributions to this sensational programme: Volvo, Almdudler, Kitzsteinhorn, Zell am See, Kaprun, freeskiers.net, Arcadia Agency, Heinken, Nokia und A1
