Top Riders Confirmed for the 2010 Burton European Open

The 11th annual Burton European Open (BEO) is just around the corner, with only five weeks to go before the competition kicks off on January 9, 2010 in LAAX, Switzerland. Don’t miss your chance to watch this exciting and thrilling show from riders around the globe. The BEO is the second stop of the 2009/2010 Burton Global Open Series (BGOS) and a Swatch TTR 6Star event. Riders will be competing for a piece of the US$ 125,000 prize purse and a chance to gain valuable points towards the BGOS and Swatch TTR titles.

The crème de la crème of the snowboarding scene will use this opportunity to ride the LAAX halfpipe in preparation for the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. The slopestyle course looks promising with interesting features that will be ripped up by the riders. Reigning 08/09 Swatch TTR World Champion Peetu Piiroinen (FIN) and 08/09 BGOS men’s champion Chas Guldemond (USA) have both confirmed that they will compete. They will be joined by first ever Olympic Halfpipe Gold Medalist, Gian Simmen (SUI) and Mathieu Crepel (FRA), 2006 TTR World Champion. On the women’s side Cheryl Maas (NED), the 2006 Women’s TTR World Champion, will make an appearance. A squad of upcoming riders will use the chance to show off their skills against the champions, among them the 2008 BEO Junior Champion and 2009 winner Sebastien Toutant (CAN), 2009 Crossover Champ, Elias Elhardt (GER), 2009 halfpipe and slopestyle Junior’s champion Patrick Burgener (SUI) and the current women’s TTR points leader Sarka Pancochova (CZE).
Hundreds of riders representing 21 countries and 4 continents registered to compete in the halfpipe and slopestyle events. The youngest rider registered is Chloe Kim from the US (9 years old), who placed 5th in the Junior HP last year, and the oldest competitor on the starting list is Japanese rider Chiyo Ishida (37 years), who competed in the BEO in 2008 and 2009.
