At 135 meters long and 6.30 meters height, it just can’t escape one’s notice – the Superpipe at Snowpark Kitzsteinhorn is a monster! Crisp and fresh as ever, the largest pipe in Austria acts as a magnet for freestylers from all over Europe. The common consensus about the pipe is just “SUPER" from both tourists and freestyle pros alike.
While the snowparks of other resorts are slowly but surely drawing to a close, the awesome spring season is just beginning on the Kitzsteinhorn. In addition to the Easy Park that offers freestyle fun for all abilities and the impressive Central Park which provides the advanced riders with the right amount of hights and adrenaline, the permanent Superpipe is for sure the highlight of the Snowpark Kitzsteinhorn. It is the largest of its kind in Austria and also the only one which is permanently maintained and is therefore in perfect shape every day. What makes a superpipe differ from an ordinary half-pipe, is its specific elliptical shape.
Because of its greater landing area, it is perfectly suitable not only for pros who take it as training-ground for international competitions, but also for all amateurs who want minimal risk while taking off for the first time. The feeling of weightlessness can still be experienced for a whole month, as the Superpipe at Kitzsteinhorn will be maintained daily and prepared until at least mid-April. Snowpark Kitzsteinhorn Parkdesigner Stefan Plattner says: "Normally, the pipe is being shaped every second day, but at the moment almost every day, as there is so much going on. The workload this amounts to about 2h/day!"
A major step towards Future
Sadly, decent superpipes are scarce in Austria. The unique offer on the Kitzsteinhorn was therefore, among many others, gladly picked up by Christian Scheidl, snowboard freestyle coach of the junior Skihandelsschule Schladming and his charges. "We from the SHAS Schladming have been training here since the pipe has been opened. We go there at least once a week for practicing, as a superpipe exists only here on the Kitzsteinhorn. We used to go at least 2-3 times to Switzerland for a decent pipe, which now is not necessary anymore. Our riders and especially their parents who have always paid for the trips are of course very grateful with the situation!" says Scheidl. On the question whether Austria’s chances of creating some internationally successful halfpipe athletes he responds: "Definitely. Now just the basic requirement was created for being able to riding a pipe. Since we now have regular access to such a superb pipe in very good condition, it's only a matter of time until we can see the first doubles. "
Season peolonged with huge contests!
The great news about the superpipe of the Snowpark Kitzsteinhorn already crossed the Austrian boarders. Next week, the Quiksilver's international snowboard team has announced their visit for a photo- and film shooting at the Kitzsteinhorn next week. Furthermore you can look forward to some great events at the Snowpark Kitzsteinhorn. The legendary Volvo X OVER RIDE celebrates its 8th edition on March 25th-27th 2011, where snowboarders fight for a nice prize money of 7,200 Euros in slopestyle and halfpipe. But that’s not enough: While in most ski areas the cows are already grazing on the slopes, the freestyle action goes on in the Snowpark Kitzsteinhorn with the Kitzsteinhorn Ride On slopestyle contest from April 16th- 17th 2011.
All young skiers and snowboarders who want to enjoy the freestyle and freeride paradise Kitzsteinhorn, can take advantage of the “power of ten" day ticket campaign.
