It was another battle of the triple corks at the inaugural Air + Style in Los Angeles presented by Shaun White, with young Japanese rider Yuki Kadono sealing victory with a perfect switch backside triple cork 1620.
After successful stops in Beijing and Innsbruck, the new three-stop Air + Style big air tour arrived in the Rose Bowl Stadium of Los Angeles yesterday to conclude what has been some pretty next level big air snowboarding.
With the first round kicking off under sunny California skies, it was Norwegian Ståle Sandbech who led the pack, coming out strong with a perfect backside triple cork 1440 indy. Ståle continued his dominance in round 2, sealing a place in the 5-man superfinal. With that guaranteed top 5 finish, and next closest rider Peetu Piiroinen out of the picture, he also took home the overall Air + Style 2015 title and $50,000, after finishing second in Beijing and first in Innsbruck.
Yuki Kadono put down a mind blowing switch backside triple 1620 to claim gold in the superfinal – the first ever landed in competitive snowboarding. Sebastien Tountant followed up in second with a backside triple cork 1440, with Ståle rounding out the podium in third.
