When: Sat 5th of April 2008
Where: Stubai, Austria
The Stubai glacier welcomed 63 contestants from all over, for the last 'Wir Schanzen' tourstop, with perfect snow and blue bird skies. The Snowpark had been re-worked by the 'Schneestern' park crew and was freed from all the superfluous snow that had fallen in the days before. The park setup which was awaiting the shred delegation was made up of a triple kickerline and a rail line with various jibstacles to bonk and slide on.
Each of the contestants had one kicker run and a second jibstacle one. The qualifications saw riders sending it in the hopes of making it under the first 8 riders that would ride in the finals for the men, and 4 riders for the women and juniors. The level was high, and the specators got to see tricks in great variation. After a whole day of course destruction it was Austria's Christoph Messner who came out victorious ahead of Germany's Daniel Rajcsanyl and Tajo Seefried. What her brother missed by only a couple points, Veronika Rajcsanyl succeeded in, and won the womens comp infront of Lena Watzenegger and Hannah Göttgens. In the kids comp it was Nico von Lechenfeld who managed against Felix Georgil and Markus Oswald.
As is often the case, the aftershow party of the competition was held at the infamous 'Blue Chip' in Innsbrooklyn, where contestants and fans boozed and partied till the wee hours of the morning.
This being the last and final tourstop of the 'Wir Schanzen' tour, called for an overall champion bearing the name Thomas Schwarz, who performed outstandingly in almost every one of the tourstop and deservedly took the overall-title. He was rewarded with a brand new Suzuki Motocross bike, proper cheddar and some more hardgoods. More info about the winners and special prizes will be announced very soon so just show us a little bit more patience.
You can of course go to the the 'Wir Schanzen' webpage to read and inform yourself about the final aftertour party being held in the 'Parktheatre' in Kempten, Germany on April the 18th.
