Starting today, everyone should have an eye on what’s going on downunder as the Australian leg of the World Snowboard Tour is hitting the Snowy Mountains premier resort of Perisher for the Mile High by Carlton Dry event over the 26th to the 28th of August. Boasting a star studded line up of the World’s best, the biggest International turnout of professional riders are set to hit the shores ready to battle it out against local and cross Tasman talent in Australia’s biggest Slopestyle course. The level is guaranteed to be off the hook as riders look to post invaluable early 2013/2014 World Snowboard Tour points, the 20,000 USD prize money and start honing their skills in preparation for Slopestyle’s inaugural inception into the Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014.
In what promises to be an intense, action packed two days of top men and women’s Snowboard, Freeski and music events, the town of Jindabyne and resort of Perisher are preparing to roll out the welcome mat for athletes, fans and party goers to celebrate Australia’s biggest winter international event opening with 4 solid jib features containing rails to gaps, gaps to rails, raised oil drum kicker and long down bar options before finishing up with a a 50ft step down kicker into a 60ft poppy rollover booter. Riders will be forced to extract every nuance of style and extract maximum points from all features and sections to take out the title of the Mile High by Carlton Dry champions for 2013.
A maximum of 80 riders are eligible to compete in this year’s event, where some of Australia’s best known riding exports including Robbie Walker and Scotty James are going to have to dig deep to retain the title on home soil (snow) coming up against international heavy weights including Chas Guildemond(USA), Kevin Backstrom(SWE), Sage Kostenberg(USA), Antoine Truchon(CAN), Tor Lundstrom(SWE), Hiraoka Keitaro(JPN), Nick Brown(NZL), Matts Kulisek(CAN) and upcoming rookies Rowan Coultas(GBR) and Roli Tschoder(AUT) amongst others. The Woman’s action promises to be equally as fierce where Jenny Jones(GBR) and Silvia Mittlemüller(GER) look as if to be early favorites based on previous World Snowboard Tour event results.
