This past weekend, a bunch of the world’s finest slopestyle and big air riders assembled in Beijing’s iconic Birdnest stadium for an evening of world-class, World Snowboard Tour 6 star, snowboard meat hucking. There were slams, triple cork attempts and of course some eye-popping tricks stomped.
The rider list was as stacked as ever with the likes of Peetu Piiroinen, Halldor Helgason, Sage Kotsenburg, Ulrik Badertscher, Eric Willet and Yuki Kadono all vying for a slice of the 100,000 dollar prize purse.
After several rounds of head-to head battles it was young Swedish bossman Sven Thorgren who did enough to snag first place, scoring a 96 point score with a textbook backside 1440 mute – a trick he’s never landed before.
Sage Kotsenburg and Kim Rune Hansen claimed second and third with Sage stomping a ridiculously sick cab double cork japan/crail double grab (check it out in the highlights vid if you don’t quite follow!). Mr. Hansen landed a switch backside 1260 to take bronze (who remembers the days when that trick was an almost guaranteed first place? It wasn’t all that long ago!).
Once again though the event was quite the spectacle and big up to Sven for the biggest win of his career so far.
