http://mpora.com/videos/v2DEKCgOn For the first tour stop of 2011, the Nike 6.0 Stairset Battle Tour went high up North, all the way to Kongsberg, Norway on 8 January 2011. For the northernmost stop of the tour, temperatures dropped to record lows of – 20°C, while the jibbers kept the fire burning with blazing tricks in front of 400 spectators in a heated battle.
With the sun setting around 3PM, the spotlights at Kongsberg Skicenter illuminated the scene of the battle before the backdrop of a dramatic Scandinavian landscape, replete with fresh snowfall throughout contest day.
The trick levels peaked with technical highlights including Switch BS 180s and SW BS 270s onto the rail, as well as a whirlwind of FS and BS 360s.
First place went to Eirik Nesse winning over the judges with tricks like SwitchBS 180 to 50-50 down the rail, and a Switch BS 270 to boardslide. Erik’s win at this official TTR 2-Star event has also earned him a ticket to the Big Final of the Tour at Nike 6.0 Air & Style 2011 in Munich on February 12, 2011! Overall, we were impressed with the level of tricks and overall love for snowboarding at this event. If you’ve never been to Norway, we highly recommend visiting this wonderful country and its open-minded people. And if you need an extra reason, the stairset will remain at Kongsberg Skicenter all winter long, illuminated by spotlights for shredding well into the night.
We’re also looking forward to the next tour stops – if temperatures around -20°C can’t hold back the battle from getting hot, we should be in for lots to come in the weeks leading up to the big finals. See you there!
