Spring Battle introduces New Contest Format – Freeskiers and Ladies welcome

With only a few weeks to go, Absolut Park’s Spring Battle – a World Snowboard Tour International Level event – will see some major changes to the contest format and mode:

Spring Battle is going back to its roots changing the Big Air format to Slopestyle and bringing back the good old jam session. Additonally, freeskiers will be invited and Absolut Park’s team is stoked to roll out the red carpet for the ladies again.

With USD 60.000 worth of prize money, a stunning set-up and a one-of-a-kind after party Absolut Park Flachauwinkl is the boiling freestyle hot spot from March 9th to 14th, 2015. Spring Battle will become a Slopestyle contest for the first time in years with a brand new feature: The contest format will be a follow cam jam session held over the duration of four days (three hours each). A team of two will shoot their best line(s) handing in the video(s) to the judges. Riders can also mix up – meaning: snowboarders can team up with freeskiers, ladies with gents, also riders with filmers.

Nevertheless, each line will be judged individually so two riders handing in their best lines have two chances of ranking and twice the chance for price money in comparison to one rider shooting with a filmer.

Seppi Harml, Absolut Park manager, shares his vision about the new format, “We are freestylers and therefore we are open-minded and free thinking. Our heart and soul is 100 % pro freestyle snowboarding and freeskiing – and freestyle loses its meaning if you have too many rules. That’s why we think the good old jam session is the perfect format for freestyle snowboarding and freeskiing. Also, the video and photo technology has improved tremendously – during the last years follow cams are a piece of cake. Consequently, a follow cam jam session is just perfect.”

USD 60.000 are up for grabs and not just to the pros but anyone could go home with some of the prize money: Whilst a few riders of each category – Snowboard Men and Women, Freeski Men and Women – are invited, the contest will be open for everyone to participate. Riders like WST Champion Spencer 0 ́Brien (CAN), X-Games Freeski Slopestyle Gold winner Emma Dahlström (SWE), WST seventh Roope Tonteri (FIN), Olympia participant and FIS Snowboard Worldcup Silver medalist Anna Gasser (AUT), Freeski Slopestye world champion Lisa Zimmermann (GER), Absolut Park team riders Antoine Truchon (CAN) Seppe Smits (BEL) and Luca Tribondeau (AUT) and more have already confirmed their participation.

Last years winner Billy Morgan is already excited: „Spring BaKle combines amazing snowboarding and an epic aMer party, it doesn’t get much beKer than this! I hope to be able to defend my Ptle, but I might be too old now, the level of riding is just really high these days.”
