As part of the World Snowboard Tour, the Spring Battle at Absolut Park has become a fixed date in the schedules of international top riders. Year after year, excellent park conditions paired with a high riding level, warm spring temperatures, and a legendary after party attract snowboarders from all over the world to meet in Flachauwinkl.
Since last year, the Spring Battle is not only an International Level Event on the World Snowboard Tour, but also a high-class freestyle contest. For Seppi Harml, Absolut Park manager, the combination of both disciplines into one event was as consequential as the introduction of a new contest format from a classic Big Air to a Slopestyle jam session: “We are freestylers and therefore we are open-minded and free thinking. Our heart beats for freestyle snowboarding and freeskiing alike - and freestyle loses its meaning if there are too many rules. That’s why we think the good old jam session is the perfect contest format."
Spring Battle 2016: Open follow cam jam session
Whilst a few riders of each category are invited to the Spring Battle, anyone can participate. Like last year, men and women are welcome and four different categories will be judged: snowboard men and women. The contest format will be a follow cam jam session held over the duration of several days. All participating teams get the chance to film their best run and hand in the video to the judges. The team constellation is totally open: Men, women, snowboarders, and filmers — even mixed teams are allowed. The jam session format reduces pressure, pushes creativity and enables all contestants to show their full potential.
The Spring Battle combines a unique setup with an innovative contest format, which is why local hero Mathias Weissenbacher is already looking forward to his favourite spring event and announced his participation for 2016.
