Coming from his 3rd place finish in Russia at the THREE(3)STAR BGV Fest, German rider Alessandro Boyens took home the gold this weekend at the Swatch TTR THREE(3)STAR Sony Ericsson Snowboard Fest in Drienica, Slovakia. The Big Air competition saw a great turn out from some hard-hitting riders that came from all over Slovakia, Poland and the Czech Republic. But it was Boyens who came out on top to claim the 550 TTR ranking points and a big chunk of the $10 000 USD prize-money pay out, followed by Wojtek Pajak from Poland who placed second and Czech rider Pavel Vyroubal who placed third.
Leading up to the event, organizers and park shapers were having a difficult time preparing things due to some highly unpredictable weather. Everything came together just in time for the contest, with temperatures just above freezing and one smooth looking kicker. The format of the event was changed slightly after the training session as riders competed in a Jam Session in hopes of earning a spot in the ten-man final. Despite some high winds, the riders were stoked on the kicker, some claiming it was the best hit they had ridden the entire season.
The fondness of the kicker line was evident in the riding of every snowboarder who came out to compete. Alessandro Boyens was stomping Cab 9s and BS 7s left, right and center that earned him the win and pushed him into the Swatch TTR Top 40. Wojtek Pajak earned his second place finish by cleanly landing his BS, FS, and Cab 7s with impeccable style. Third place winner Pvel Vryoubal kept things smooth and Frontside with his 720, 900 and 1080 rotations.
The Swatch TTR THREE(3)STAR Sony Ericsson Snowboard Fest was a great success that truly showcased the talents of eastern European riders.
