Since 1999, Westendorf is the center of the Austrian Freestyle culture. Snowboarding at the highest level combined with excellent live acts and a perfect infrastructure characterizes the cult event since the beginning of its existence. For the first time the Boarders Playground in Westendorf was at the same time the venue of the German championships, which attracted a lot of participants of all ages. Riders from several countries fought on two consecutive competition days for the coveted trophies and delivered an exclusive freestyle show!
Especially strong this weekend was the English park and pipe team around Henry Shackleton, who showed impressive and technical runs on the kicker and rail line and took the victory in the men’s category. The new German champion Luis Eckert finished second followed by Jamie Trinder from England. From the Austrian perspective the Tyrolean Benjamin Moesl delivered impressive runs which gave him the Austrian Championship title and with an impressive ‘backside double cork 1080°’ he won the prize for ‘Best Trick’!
In the women’s category, Nadja Flemming from Germany was the winner in front of Lea Baumschlager, who was pleased about the title of Austrian Master 2016. Very impressive for all coaches, staff and spectators was the positive performance of the young riders. Once again it has been shown that Freestyle Snowboarding, thanks to the good cooperation between organizers, sponsors, mentors and the venues, is especially successful regarding the support of the young and upcoming riders. Eva Poppe from Belgium, Mika Schweizer from Germany, Moritz Amsuess and Nathalie Weissbacher from Austria are not only among the winners of the weekend, but are also great talents and are promising a great future for Freestyle Snowboarding.
