Riding with the jibb monks snowboardcrew!

Beyond the big mountains there is a place where shredkids have a little spot in the middle of a forest to call their own and make the best of it. To be exact, this place lies in the Fichtelgebirge in Bavaria, next to Saxonia and the Czech Republik.

We, the Jibb Monks, were highly motivated and had the dream of building a great park with every obstacle you can imagine in it… In the end it became pretty nice, also thanks to local employer Klaus A. Grünling, who helped us out with a digger. That was great help for us, without his support we might have worked until we had gray hair and 5 grandchildren. You have got to imagine that we worked for two years, only with shovels, picks, a motorsaw and our ever bigger growing muscles!

So when we had flattened the slope, seeded grass and had put the obstacles in there right places, all that was left to do was wait for snow and we got damn impatient!

Everybody thought „yeah man we got it, so let’s hope for lots of pow to shred this park!” But as usually, everything turned out different. We worried if we had worked for nothing. You need to know that normally it dumps like hell in our region, perhaps I exaggerate a little bit, but for the middle of Germany it is quite a lot.

And then, after two years of hard work and one year of impatient waiting, it was finally there:

This season it finally snowed a little bit late, but it was enough to prepare for the Opening and shape the park as well as possible. It is important to mention that we don´t use any snow cannons, our pow is purly natural. The park is located in a nature reserve, so we have to be environmantally friendly, not the worst thing that could happen…
The funpark consists of a Kicker 7m, up & down box, kinked box, down rail, dancefloooor, rainbow rail, spine, cannon ball and a barrel!

In our Opening we wanted to show our work, share it with our friends and everyone else who found their way through the woods to our park.

We also planned a Jamsession for the Openingday. A lot of shredheads came from all over Bavaria and we were happy to see old friends as well as making new friends! Also kids & girls were invited to the contest and several came, although a lot of them have never ridden much park before. Therefore you couldn’t expect a very high level of these kids, but they had passion and it was really awesome watching them just having fun and being pumped up with adrenalin! Only one girl attended this contest, but as she used every obstacle in the park she clearly deserved first place.

But after the kids session, we had the dudes over 16 and they presented us a jam that was also unforgettable for all spectators who are normally not that much into snowboarding. They were simply stoked! Even the owner of the resort was really entertained by the show and guaranteed his full support from now on!

We saw some hot 7s and 5s and lots of flipping and there were also some jibbers around killing the rails and boxes with fs 270 switch fs boardslides or stylish bs noseblunts.

Best trick that day was a fresh backflip by Michael Mayer:

In the first ranking of men we had:

The rail killer Alexander Franz – the kickerdude Michael Mayer – the one-footed freak Joachim Mangold

1. Michael Mayer
2. Alexander Franz
3. Joachim Mangold

1.Fabian Brandel
2.Fritz Schöpf
3.Felix Krug

1. Lisa Hummer

Everyone who attended this contest won something due to generous Onboard who gave us enough stuff to share with every attendant, like magazines, DVDs, “Pray for Snow” shirts (hell yeah, we need snow!!), the legendary “eesA” Socks with Onboard logo and so on! The first place also received special limited Onboard/Union bindings. B-Project, a coreshop in Nürnberg and Ripzone Europe also gave us lots of goodies, like jackets, 686 caps and some sweet Rome beanies and gloves and also tons of shirts that we could spread out to the winners. At our Openingday we wanted everyone to be a winner, some more than the others, and with the help of our sponsors everybody left with a smile on their faces!

The contest was crazy and after the jam session everyone could shred until the sunset. For our aftershowparty we just went to a Carneval party where for once no one would discriminate against us because we are wearing beanies all the time and funky cloths. We drank and danced the whole night and it was awesome!

I hope my little report made you very interested in our small funpark – just visit the jibb monks and ask us about the conditions!

Thanks to all helping us to complete the park and for everything else:
André Group for the hard work!
Roland from B-Project for all the trust in us and the goodies!
Onboard YAAA! & Ripzone for all the more stuff!
Red Bull and BMW Autohaus Richter for the free drinks!
Finally to the Kornberg-team , with their support we achieved and could make our dream come true!
