A freestyle spectacle with top athletes for the event’s anniversary Olympians against newcomers, international old hands against young Swiss talent. As different as they are, they all have the same goal: to wear the crown at the 20th anniversary of freestyle.ch Zurich.
And they will have one week to try to achieve this. It’s almost here: Most athletes have confirmed their participation in the 20th edition of freestyle.ch Zurich. They will be coming from all over the globe, arriving at the Zurich Landiwiese to show off their skills in Snowboard and Freeski Big Air, FMX and MTB Dirt Jump events, win titles and celebrate the story of freestyle.ch Zurich.
Olympic halfpipe champion Iouri Podladtchikov will start off the Style Session on Saturday. On Sunday he and fellow athletes Hitch Haller, Lucien Koch and heartthrob Jan Scherrer will battle it out for the top snowboard prize.
A first-rate international competition
No Swiss competitor made it to the snowboard podium in 2013. Antoine Truchon, who will be coming in from Canada along with fellow countryman Seb Toutant (winner of the X-Games Tignes 2013), will defend his title here. Iceland native Halldor Helgason (who once polished off a 2kg meatball) might have something to say about this as well. The youngest snowboarder is 15-year-old Norwegian Marcus Kleveland.
Style Session, Crossover by Night and competition
Saturday will be devoted to the freestyles. This is where competitors will show off their favorite tricks and impress the public with their awesome style. In the evening the riders from various disciplines will compete against each other at the Crossover Session and the spectators will ultimately choose their favorite and hence the 2014 winner! The Crossover Session has again been scheduled for the late evening, guaranteeing a first-class feast for the eyes! Sunday will be devoted to the fight for the freestyle.champ title in the respective disciplines, where the athletes will give it all they’ve got in their quest to come out on top.
freestyle.ch Zurich celebrates its 20th anniversary
freestyle.ch Zurich invites all generations to celebrate freestyle together with the riders. freestyle.ch started out many years ago as a small event for the freestyle scene but has since developed into one of the largest action sports festivals in the world. And it’s not only the public and host who are pleased. Gian Simmen, who will be commentating the contests for SRF, says: “This event is unique. I attended all events that had a snowboard competion. Either as a rider, speaker, moderator or commentator.“
For the anniversary, the fans of the various generations are joining in the fun and will celebrate the event in style together with the riders. Around 30,000 visitors are expected at the Landiwiese. For those who don’t want to miss the 20-year anniversary celebration and look forward to experiencing the meet of the freestyle stars in person, tickets are now available for pre-sale at via freestyle.ch or starticket.ch.
