Fed up of inner-city scaffolding? The Copper Mountain event was the first World Cup Big Air stop to take place on the real stuff, and we saw yet another fresh face taking the win in both the men’s and women’s events.
Thanks to a monster backside 1080 on her final run, 15-year-old Reira Iwabuchi was the surprise winner in a field that included Hailey Langland, Enni Rukajarvi and Jamie Anderson. Her landing on that one wasn’t the cleanest, but it was enough to put her on top when combined with the score for her much cleaner cab 9.

Reigning X Games slopestyle champ Julia Marino put down a cab double underflip that earned her the biggest score out of all the podium runs, but her third hit – a front 7 that barely cleared the knuckle – prevented her from beating Iwabuchi. Rounding out the top three was Norway’s Silje Norendal, making her first appearance on the steps this season with a combination of cab 900 and backside 720.
