New Superpipe and Format at the 2015 Burton European Open Presented by MINI in LAAX

The 16th Annual Burton European Open Presented by MINI (BEO) is excited to announce that the event will feature two big changes this season, including a brand-new, best-in-class superpipe and new contest format. This year, the snowboarding community will gather to enjoy world-class snowboarding, entertainment and a cool event theme at LAAX, Switzerland, from January 29th – February 1st, 2015.

For decades, Burton, the world’s leading snowboard company and LAAX have pro-actively pushed and developed the sport of snowboarding. Both are pioneers, and have implemented groundbreaking standards for the snow industry. The successful collaboration of Burton and LAAX culminates in the annual Burton European Open presented by MINI, the flagship event of European snowboarding.

During the summer, Europe’s leading freestyle-resort built an incredible new Superpipe up on Crap Sogn Gion. With a length of 200 meters (formerly 140 m), 22 meters wide from coping to coping (formerly 14 m) and 6,9 meter high walls (formerly 6,7 m), this pipe can claim the title of the biggest Halfpipe operated all season worldwide. The pipe will open on December 6th, 2014. The international contest premiere of this pipe will be celebrated during the 16th Annual Burton European Open presented by MINI.

This year’s BEO also has a new competition format. The starting field will consist of 16 women and 32 men per discipline, which will be packed with top riders from the World Snowboarding Points List and Wildcards. During the elimination round, riders will battle for a spot in the finals (6 women, 10 men).

Also for 2015, the world’s best riders, champions and Olympians will gather up on Crap Sogn Gion to show their freestyle skills in Slopestyle and Halfpipe and to take home part of the US$ 160,000 prize money, prestigious BEO-titles and trophies.
