Check out the video highlights and results from the World Rookie Finals in Ischgl, where Møns Roisland and Henna Ikola were crowned World Rookie Champions for 2015.
Once again, the Black Yeti proved that the future snowboard pros are just around the corner. During the 2015 Völkl World Rookie Finals the best 107 young riders from all over the world showcased their talent in the latest World Snowboard Tour Slopestyle competition of the season. The young guns had something impressive in their bags of tricks and took care for some solid entertainment in the Ischgl Snowpark with their 3 runs each.
Male Rookie Mons Røisland from Norway was killing it with a Switch Backside 1260 Mute and a Backside 900 Mute on the first two jumps, and a Cab Boardslide Underflip on the canon rail. He then hit the rails with a Tail 270 out and a Frontside 180 Switch Backside 360 Out. Mons is taking home the title as WSF World Rookie Champion 2015 and a wild card for the Air & Style. With his needless first run, the 18-years-old outdid his team mate Fridtjof Tischendorf (NOR) and Swiss rider Dario Burch who filled the other podium spots in the male Rookie category.
Female WSF World Rookie Champion became Henna Ikola from Finland. In her winning run she laid down a Backside 360 Indy and a Frontside 360 Indy on the kickers followed by a 50-50 Melon out, and a Backside Boardslide and a 50-50 Frontside 180 off on the rails. Rookie girls Hanne Kjøll Eilertsen (NOR) and Elli Pikkujamsa (FIN) came second and third.
In the male Grom category Wendelin Gauger (SUI) grabbed the highest position on the podium. The Swiss ripper landed a Switch Backside 900 Mute on the first kicker just before he stomped a Frontside 720 Mute on the second one and performed a 50-50 Backlip Out and left the jib area with a 50-50 Frontside 360 Out and a Lip Noseslide.
Reira Iwabuchi from Japan showed the best run among the female Grom: Backside 360, Frontside 360 Indy, 50-50 Nosegrab out, 50-50 and a Noseslide to Fakie.
Besides the Yeti Trophies, the Rookies and Groms received stoking prizes for a total value of 20.000 Euros: a wild card for one of the next season’s Air & Style events for the Male World Rookie Champion, 2 all-inclusive trips to the 2015 South America Rookie Fest in Chile, a filming session with Pirate Movie Productions, many invitations to 2016 World Rookie Tour stops in Italy and Austria, as well as 2 invitations to the Rookie Photo shooting in Corvatsch.
In addition, the riders took home prizes from the 2015 Völkl World Rookie Finals sponsors: Völkl, SP Gadgets, RedBull, Glorify and Ischgl.
