When: 1-2 Nov
Where: Les Deux Alps
Ohlala French Rodeo in Les Deux Alpes concentrated heavy storm, fresh snow, rain, wind and a bit of sunshine at the end, forcing organisers to reschedule tests and demo… But as always nothing could disturb the massive parties to happen…
Everybody was ampted at the end of last week watching the snow reports indicating about 50cm of french in the resort of Les Deux Alpes, and more on the glacier... That was before the heavy wind came in and stayed there for most of the week-end, crippling the tests, the contest, and the mood of thousands of kids and industry people for the usual season's opening French Rodeo. Still, a lot of testers were up early on Friday, first day of the tests which this year happened at the bottom of the resort, since it was just enough snow there, and too much wind at the top. The bravest amongs them could try the Dupraz Banked Slalom, or the Air Bag.
When the wind got stronger, people gathered in the massive tent on the main square to enjoy some plastic bull riding or enter the Air Guitar contest. Friday night was also the time to put up the suits and run to the French Awards Ceremony, organised by Snowboard Collective – thanks guys for the good vibe!
Awarded people (awards based on magazine coverage over last season):
International Rider of the Year: Anne-Flore Marxer (in front on Jonas Emery and Romain DeMarchi, if you please !) French rider of the year: Arthur Longo French female rider of the year: Caroline Béliard Rookie of the year: Pierre Rué Female rookie of the year: Mirabelle Thovex Movie part of the Year: Mathieu Crépel (Aesthetica) Photographer of the year: Vanessa Andrieux Resort of the year: Les Deux Alpes
On top of these happenings, pretty much all the new movies got their Premieres: Burton’s It’s always snowing somewhere, O’Neill’s Legends, Droz’s Homies, Ero One’s What’s Poppin’, Travis Rice’s That’s It That’s All, and of course Yeahh Love, presented by APO, Vans and Onboard on Saturday night in the Smithys Tavern, with the presence of pretty much every faces that the French snowboard scene can count – except for Pacome Allouis who was working on the last adjustments for his jubilee party at the Avalanche next door – which we all inflamed after the Smithys closed its doors. Big up Pacome!
And also, big up to all the awarded riders, big up to Morgan for his part in Yeahh Love, and big up Mathieu Crépel for a hell of a video section, probably the strongest a French rider ever had. So don’t miss Aesthetica, the new Standard Premiere. France is back! Yeahh Love!
Massive thanks to the resort of Les Deux Alpes, the press office, LikeThat, Mark and the crew @ Smithys and to Pied-Moutet hotel.
PS: To the bastard who stole my 686/Onboard jacket: I'll make sure I'll see you around in the Alps for a little chit-chat...
