The bottom booter
I awoke with the warming rays of the sun, signaling to me that it was pretty much bluebird! Still dizzy, I scraped together my gear and jousted off to the gondola. I, of course, took the wrong one and ended up going all the way to the top of the resort, which cost me valuable time, but was well worth it for the view! The final leg of your acent you take a train up the moutain, only to be spit out of a little door where you have a killer view of the glacier and valley below! I quickly rode down to the slopestyle course where the jam session was in full swing, with a setup consisting of a little step up snow box, followed by a booter that had amazing kick and a final step over gap booter at the bottom of the course.
The riders were feeling the second kicker as they approached it with rather moderate speed but got hucked in the air as if there were no tomorrow. Juuso Laivisto, last year’s winner, was serious business as he hucked a huge double backflip, and some super smooth Sw Bs 7’s. Tonton Holland was also feeling it and was oozing style all day long, and deservedly won his heat. Other standout’s of the day were young Swiss ripper Gian-Luca Cavigelli and German Alessandro Boyens, who were both going huge and tech.
Friday night was going to be all about hip-hop as Dj Stylewarz got the crowd, and especially the ladies, going at the Popcorn. How I was wrong! As I was chillin’ to beats, I overheard some over-enthused kid raving about Shaun White jamming a guitar at the Living Room Bar upstairs. I scrambled up the stairs, dashed into the ‘Living Room’ and there he was! His red fluffy hair being thrown in all directions, with him emmersed in a guitar solo. He actually came!!! I couldn’t wait for Saturday, and the slopestyle finals.
