When: March 28-29th, 2009
Where: Snowpark Lenzerheide, SwitzerlandWhen the month of March comes to an end, that means simultaneously the end of the March Madness presented by „Die Mobiliar“.
Thus the people had more reasons to come to the snowpark Lenzerheide: First to party the end of the event-series, second to celebrate a freestyle day in the name of youthsnowboarding and fun: Within the Rookie Rodeo youngsters, groms and rookies up to the age of 18 had the possibility to compete in the perfect shaped park-set up and to ride and get in touch with pro snowboarders like Marc André Tarte (CAN) and Daniel „Gummi“ Rietmann (SUI).
The unstable weather with wind and snow could not suppress the desire and motivation of the organizers and the riders to realize a special spring session and a contest with winners in the categories Juniors and Rookies male and female. The weather forecast for the weekend was not too good and with strong winds, snow and clouds the contest mood got under a dull ambience a little bit. But the motivation of the organizers, the riders and pro snowboarders showed on Saturday, where clouds were mixep up with sun, that a perfect riding day cannot be destroyed by contrary weather conditions: Around 9.30 a.m. the sponsors´ flags and banners already oriented in the wind´s direction and the first competitors and pros like Marc André Tarte, Daniel „Gummi“ Riet mann, Lucino Rameli and Benedikt Nadig joined us in the Snowpark Lenzerheide to be part of the youthsnowboarding challenge Rookie Rodeo and support the talented and motivated groms with trick tips and in the function as judges. Due to the hard and constant wind the organizers were forced to change the contest program to an one-hour-jam session on the boxes and rails and the last kicker of the medium line (straight box, double kinked box, straight rail, double kinked rail, wallride, kicker (9m) and rainbow box). The session started at 11 a.m. and the kids from 12 to 18 years were followed by the eyes of the three judges, the filmer and photographer and the helping tips by Marc André Tarte.
The winners in the juniors category
After many different lines over the boxes and rails, bs rodeos and fs 7s over the kicker the session came to an end. In the category girls the one and only competitor Saskia Bellmont could feel as the winner and take home CHF 200.- and a goodie bag of Nitro / Beach Mountain. In the category Juniors (14 years and younger) the winner was Marcel Eichmann (CHF 200.-), Niculin Balzer got second (CHF 150.-) and Johann Blaesi third (CHF 100.- + CHF 50.- Best Rail Combo). Johann also won the extra prizemoney for the best rail combo. And in the Rookies category Manuel Fischer (gap transfer at the double kinked box, clean and difficult rail- and box-lines) could convince the judges with his overall style and won CHF 200.- .Daniel Kubli proved second place and got the special prize for his winning combo: Second place in the ranking and highest score of the day! Thus he got a totally new Nitro snowboard of his choice in the next Beach Mountain shop. At third position Lars Helfenstein ended up with an extra CHF 100.- in his wallet!
The winners in the rookie category
After the prizegiving ceremony the session was not over yet: The kids got the possibility to ride and shred with the pros and ask for some coaching tipps. So the day ended with some rounds through the massive park set-up in Lenzerheide and some gunfires together with Marc André Tarte, Daniel Gummi Rietmann and Lucino Rameli. So a day full of riding, motivation and fun ended and the kids went back home with a big smile.
For the party people and visitors over 18 the show not ended yet, because at 10 p.m. the doors of the Cinema Music Club at the Hotel Kurhaus Lenzerheide opended for a BONK Party presented by twoleftfeet.ch. And these partys guarantee dance action and party mood! All of that was maximized by the bad ass discotunes of DJ Jimi Jules and DJ r.t.aka cut norris. So more goodie bags of Nitro / Beach Mountain and as a highlight a Nitro snowboard found new owners: the person who collected the most hang-tacks out of the party peoples´underwear within 15 minutes was the winner! Saisonier and exile-Lenzerheide local Lena (from Germany) collected 52 hang-tacks and got the lucky and deserved winner in the end!
On the next day the organisers were forced to cancel the last Park Party up in the snowpark Lenzerheide because of the bad weather conditions. All in all the four weekends were a great time and a sucessfull event-series with many highlights, laughing faces and a lot of madness for sure! We are back in 2010… the future is NOW. Come join us.
