Iceland Tops Podium again in Livigno at 2018 WRF

Baldur Vilhelmsson win the 13th edition of DEEJAY Xmasters World Rookie Fest in Livigno’s Mottolino Snowpark… Check the action!

Livigno and Mottolino Snowpark welcomed over 100 riders from 11 nations for this year’s World Rookie Fest. After two days of heavy snowfall and low clouds, the sun finally broke through for Tuesday’s training and Wednesday’s final, where the riders got busy in two final runs.

The girls started first and Germany’s Annika Morgan (li’l sis to Ethan) landed in the Rookie top spot with her second run which included a backside 360 and a frontside 360 on the kicker line, than boardslide 270 out and lipside pretzel 270 out on the Oakley elephant rail. Annika topped out ahead of two Finnish riders: Inna Puhakka and Evelina Taka. In the Grom Girls category, the UK’s Mia Brookes took first place ahead Switzerland’s Elena Schutz and Evy Poppe from Belgium.

Grom Boys rolled up straight after the Girls’ category. Swede William Mathisen and Swiss kid Alessandro Lotorto competed for the podium here once again, after the stop in Corvatsch, and they took home first and second place respectively. William’s run included a backside double cork and frontside 720 Melon on the XL kickers and a front blunt 270 and backblunt 270 in on the last rails. Lukas Frischhut (AUT) rounded out the podium in third.

In the Rookies’ division, Iceland’s Baldur Vilhelmsson took home the bling with his 85,3 points, bringing Iceland victory for the second year in a row. He landed a frontside 900 and switch back 900 on the kicker line, blunt 270-out and backside 270-in on the last jibs. Baldur finished ahead Nick Punter from Switzerland and Germany’s Noah Vicktor.

Right after the prize giving ceremony, Baldur frothed: “I am so stoked! For me, it’s the first time in Livigno, the park was so sick today and to meet other riders here is nice, also World Rookie Tour is a great competition”.

Last but not least, the prize awarded to the best team this year went to Switzerland with its 17 athletes.

To end the day, the Black Yeti waited all the riders for the final party at Miky’s Pub (yeah groms – Ed] supported by Dolly Noire and energized by Red Bull.
