High riding level at the Stubai Jam

When: Sat 10th of January 2009

Where: Stubai Glacier, Austria

The winners looking pretty stoked

Last Saturday, the 10th of January, the numerous spectators and riders at the Stubai Jam witnessed a breathtaking slopestyle contest in best weather. The kick-off event of the Suzuki Wir Schanzen 2009 presented by Quiksilver at the MOREBOARDS Stubai Zoo on the Stubai glacier was a total success and the riding level was enormously high.

The Suzuki Wir Schanzen 2009 could not have a better start. Under bright sunshine 100 participants competed against each other in the categories kids, girls and men on the perfectly prepared MOREBOARDS Stubai Zoo. The motivation was immense, as none of the riders wanted to miss their chance to gather the first important points for the tour-ranking as well as the highly sought-after ranking points for the Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour.

Since weeks before the event the team from Schneestern parks & more gave its best to realize the MOREBOARDS Stubai Zoo. The outcome is really impressive and the participants from various countries like Ecuador, England or the Czech Republic to name but a few were able to shred a top-class park. The core of the snowpark is the kicker line which consists of three massive kickers with many different launches in the big-air format followed by a combination, where the riders can decide between a fourth kicker, an a-frame or a lollypop. The rider handled the setup pretty well and outgunned each other with harder and harder tricks.

In the qualification every rider had two runs, with the better one counting. For kids and girls the qualification round was actually also the final, therefore the riders gave everything, showed all their skills and impressed the judges with top-class runs on a very high level.

The riders in the men’s category already showed a lot in the qualification as well. Pretty soon it was obvious, that the riders would have pull out their hardest tricks to win this competition. With big-names like Patrick Huber (Snowboard) a veritable top-class field of riders was registered and the spectators saw tricks like switch 1080s.

The best eight riders made it to the finals and had to prove themselves in a style run and in a technical run. The results of both runs were added and the sum equalled the final score.

Patrick Huber (AUT) prevailed over Christoph Messner (AUT) and Benno Poster (DE) in an exciting battle with stylish and technically sophisticated runs.

Not only the winners had a smile on their lips when it was time for prize-giving, also all other riders as well as the spectators had a visibly good feeling as well and were happy about the successful tour kick-off. The high level at the Stubai Jam makes us look even more forward to fine action at the upcoming tour stops.
