Get Hyped on Rock A Rail 2016

Rock A Rail 2016: the number one snowboard event of the lowlands is back! Snow is falling early this year in the Netherlands. Building on the success of past years, one of the finest rail jams in Europe is back for its sixth anniversary. At December 10, thousands of spectators are expected to fill the “Grote Markt” in down town The Hague around 16 o’clock.

Right in the city centre, a custom, one-of-a-kind urban setting will be constructed over a two-storey scaffolding frame. Featuring the most provocative obstacles imaginable, the possibilities are endless. The street set up is covered by locally produced snow from The Uithof snow dome. Spectators will witness the jibbers battling it out for the 1000-euro grand prize, or a share of the 5000-euro prize purse. With international invitees Benny Milam (USA) and Shoma Takao (JPN) lining up alongside local heroes Bob van Unnik and Cees Wille, the riders are sure to make the most of the amazing set up.

The competition starts Saturday at 16:00, with the finals expected around 21:00. After the prize giving, the crowd switches into party mode with three different Monster Energy after-parties starring DJ’s Je m’appelle Pasquinel, Boemer, Friss, Winchester en Leroy Joy. The whole weekend is packed with side events, kicking off on Thursday (December 8th) with the last qualification for those not invited (two wild cards) during a jam session in the Uithof. Friday there will be a movie night followed by a sweet Monster Energy pre-party with the band Traumahelikopter (3FM, Eurosonic Noorderslag). There are meet & greets, signing sessions, sweep stakes and for those not getting tired an after shred going down on Sunday.

The Hague is an obvious choice to boast possibly the sickest urban snowboard event ever to be seen, presented by Monster Energy drinks and GoPro camera’s in association with CAPiTA snowboards, and Volcom clothing. The Dutch government city The Hague is not only the international center of peace and justice, it’s also a great urban playground with many skateboarders, surfers and snowboarders. Rock A Rail wants to introduce (urban)snowboarding to as wide an audience as possible but the focus is on progression of the sport. A never seen combination of obstacles provides the perfect opportunity for riders to showcase their creativity, keep the hardcore shred fans happy and provide an amazing spectacle for the crowds as well.

Anyone near The Netherlands can come and watch – for free. When you are unable to attend the event in person you can follow everything at or tune in for the live stream, presented and broadcasted on With photographers and film crews on hand to document the action, the follow-up video edit is sure to be a banger.
