When: October 3-5, 2008
It really was a crazy weekend. Snowfall at the beginning of October like in the deepest winter, powder on the slopes, a park that was fun for both, freestyle nubies and top riders, free testing of the latest material and last but not least two big parties with deluxe sound! The conclusion: The hotzone.tv Park Opening in Hintertux had not only a bit of everything but a lot of everything: Snowfall, fog, sun, pipe, park, powder, party and products. And all that at the beginning of October!
From October 3- 5 the place to be was Tux in the Zillertal where the hotzone.tv Park Opening was taking place on the Hintertux Glacier - the first Park Opening of this season! It was the perfect event to test the new material from several snowboard brands for free. Friday started off with loads of snow because it had been snowing all night down to a height of 850 m. During the whole day big snowflakes were falling from the sky. The sight on the mountain was really bad but everyone was happy about the fresh pow coming down on the Tyrolean Mountains.
„So cool!“ was probably the most heard exclamation this Friday on the Hintertux Glacier. You could not see who was shouting it but the bad sight could not trouble the happiness about the first snow. It was too foggy for the park and so everyone had fun on the slopes testing the latest stuff. In the early evening media representatives from all over Europe met in the Hotel Testerhof to learn something. Muck Müller informed them in his funny way about the history of the sponsors hotzone.tv, Tux and Hintertux and they got a lot of background information about the shop, the village and the park.
In the evening everyone went to the „Gletscherspalte“ in Tux to warm up for the main party on Saturday. The comfy and traditional bar was filled with phat beats from DJ RA-B from Vienna and Rufflow from Regensburg and as the live acts for Saturday, King Banana and Simple, were also there they were doing a voice warm-up right away. Also present was surprise guest Demograffics and the guys were having a deluxe freestyle session!
Most of the guests were arriving on Saturday. They were welcomed by the fog and it was snowing the whole afternoon. Meanwhile we had over 70 cm of fresh snow and all together a snow height of 105 cm. Nearly nobody was riding in the park because the sight was too bad to rock the kickers but one could go down to 2,660 on fresh snow on the 30 km of slopes m and test the new material. So everyone was happy just to be on the board again after so long. On the parking lot in front of the Hohenhaus Tenne the „Slytech Gladiator Session“ was taking place from 3 to 6 pm. A funny side event initiated by the shops „insider“, „the seeker“ and „hotzone.tv“ where the competitors had to kick each other off a scantling with oversized Q-Tips in an „American Gladiator“ way. Everyone could take place and the winners of the duels were rewarded with various goodies.
At 20:00h the party crowd met at the “Hohenhaus Tenne" in Hintertux to see the premiere of the hotzone.tv team movie Well Dude, it’s like this... and the movie Ready from Absinthe Films. The shuttle busses that were bringing the party guests from Mayrhofen and Tux to Hintertux were stuffed and they even had to order an extra bus. Nearly the whole Hotzone Team was present at the premiere with Lars Oesterle, Seppe and Antony Smits, Werni Stock, Mone, Benny Wetscher, Friedl Kolar, Peter König and Rudi Kröll. Brusti from the Absinthe crew showed up with Zillertal Local Wolle Nyvelt and Marco Feichtner. Altogether more than eight hundred people were there to have some party! The party really came up to the motto „Almrausch & Shred Movies“! Hip Hop MC Simple and DJ RA-B started after the video premiers and the party crew was bouncing. Surprise guest Demograffics accompanied by DJ Rufflow is probably the fastest German speaking rapper who rhymes in English. And he was kicking it in English and Bavarian, so the crowd was getting wild on the dance floor.
Afterwards Selecta Mortal Kombat and Reggae Man King Banana cooled the overheated crowd down to working temperature. The last ones found their way home at dawn… And suddenly there it was: The sun! When we looked out the window that morning blue bird deluxe was awaiting us. We saw what we could not see the days before: The whole Finkenberg - Tux Arena was a beautiful winter wonderland and the mountain had perfect conditions for a start into the new season. And today was a day every season should start with: Powder runs on the slopes for the early birds – it is badly advised not to go riding in the backcountry in autumn because of the hidden crevasses - and a phat international park session in a top shaped setup from the betterpark.com crew around Wille Kaufmann- just perfect!
The Pro Line came up with 2 x 15 m tables, the Medium Line had 2 kickers with 8 m and 10 m table and they had 5 completely new rails: Flat Box 4 m leading to a Down Box 8m, a Rainbow Box 9 m, a 9m Curved Box and another 4m Flat Box. The super pipe was perfectly shaped too and the riders could rock its total length of 120 meters. The 6m high Corner invited to a session which the hotzone.tv team riders Rudi Kröll, Werni Stock and Peter König had together with Niki Korpela. Niki had not been riding for 3 months and was pulling with phat 1080ties in the Pro Line. But the most outstanding performances at the Pro Line came from Marco Grilc with Double Backflips to fs 9er. At the park session and the whole Opening there had been a really international flair with visitors, Top Riders and media representatives from Poland, Italy, Slovakia, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Finland, and of course from Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Other well know riders who had been representing at the opening were Stefan Gimpl, Marco Feichtner, Lars Oesterle, Michal Ligocki, Stefan „Mu“ Maurer, Jan Michaelis, Tadej Valentan as well as from the Ä’s Wolle, Steve, Friedl and CK... –
It finally was a super successful Park Opening that set the highlight of this weekend with the fabulous conditions on Sunday. – Those who had been on the opening are prepared for the new season!
