When: 25-27 March 2009
Where: Mayrhofen, Austria
So, the 2009 edition of the Oakley Jib-Vid has come and gone and left all who were present amped on the insane level of films that were produced. Now that the hangovers from the epic premiere night party have finally abated, we can bring you a run down of what went down along with giving you a chance to watch all the films right here.
From witnessing the action in the park and beyond on Friday it was clear that the riding had gone up a notch, and from the moment the first films were shown it was apparent that the filming, editing and ideas the crew had been working on had stepped it up to the same degree. From Team Grenade's Scarface-inspired shootout, complete with Molotov cocktails, to the screaming wit of The Aristocratic Style Police of Death in Team Chamonix 9000VerticalFeet's affair; the bold madness of Team Burton who got the 3 park shots and then actually jetted to the Milton Keynes Snowzone to film their riding to the powder angle taken by The Strangers team; the post production effects and anal close up of Team Whitelines, the self-spanking secrets of Tyler Chorlton in Oakley Snowboard's vid or the dark arthouse from The Seeker and Lift Op Productions teams.
Judged by their peers and 3 external judges, the scoring was broken down into riding (60%), filming (20%), editing (20%) and creativity (20%) and after the initial round of screenings it was only those that managed to marry those criteria most successfully that would get the chance to be shown, and judged, again to determine the final standings. With the bar at a higher level than ever before it proved interesting to see what had made the cut.
In no particular order, the top 5 were announced: Onboard, O'Neill/Isenseven, Meth-Headz, Oakley Tigers and Protest all had great shredding, tight editing, and legit filming. After the films had been shown a final time it was 'drum roll please' time and the final results were announced. 5th place went to Richard Prendagast, Kalle Ohlson and Chris Sörman of Team Meth-Headz whose über-ambitious 3D offering, though buggered slightly in the encoding process, worked good and had everyone looking like we were in a US drive-in cinema in the 50s with 3D glasses stuck on their faces.
