Last Saturday, 14 March, the ski resort Zolotaya Dolina in the deserted Northwest of St Petersburg, became an absolute must for snowboarders up to 20 years. Once again a stop of the Burton AM Tour 2008/09 created a burning atmosphere in a resort. This Swatch TTR 2Star event attracted 69 talented Russian young bloods. Again, the AM Tour called up the “ingenious2” Hannes and Stefan from UNIT Parktech AG in order to take over this eastern-shaping-mission. It was hard work but after one week of digging, shovelling, shaping and branding, a sweet park was ready to get rocked… a masterpiece of hard work. NICE! The many spectators, the resort and especially the riders were stoked. Many of them had never hit such a playground before. Screams were heard in the cold Russian air and believe it, it was not the roaring of some wild bears… “WE WANT TO RIDE!”… We are always happy to fulfil the rider’s wishes! With pleasure, yep!
In the finals every participant came up with two hot runs that gave the judges a hard time. At the end it was Michail Ilin within the Junior Boys who rocked the shiny park the best. The 180 to 50/50 on the Elephant-Box, a 50/50 over the Rainbow-Box followed by a Switch-Backside 540 Melon, a Frontside 720 Melon over the Kickers and a stylish air in the Quarter was his best combo after a brilliant day. In the Youth Boys category Stas Polonskiy won with a Backside Noseslide on the Elephant- Box, a Nosepress on the Rainbow-Box, a Frontside 540 on the Kicker and good Air in the Quarter. Also the girls did a great job. The Junior category was dominated by Anastasia Zhukova with her 50/50 on the Elephant-Box, a 50/50 180 out on the Rainbow-Box, followed by a Cab 360 and a Straight-Air on the Kickers. Within the Youth Girls category Maria Yakushkina was able to clean up with her opponents.
While the night fell over Russia and the participants were returning home happily from another sick AM comp, the crew was already preparing the next stop of the Tour in Avoriaz, France. So little time and so many miles to drive… On the road again, gipsy-style! Aight, we like! With the remaining two stops of the Tour, the race to become the Overall Tour Winner soon comes to a captivating end.
