Burton AM Tour in Bialka Tatrzanska Poland
Into the White
The Polish stop of the Burton AM Tour 2008/09 took place on Saturday, 14th February in Bialka Tatrzanska. Sixty-two riders from two different nations competed in this unique winter landscape, made by the heaviest snowfalls in Poland for years.
After a long journey to the east part of Europe on snow-white, narrow streets in Poland we arrived in Bialka Tatrzanska. On Saturday February 14th, 60 motivated competitors from Poland and 2 from Slowenia met in the Snowpark of Bialka Tatrzanska to show what’s going on in the Eastern Europe.
Permanent, heavy snowfall hindered us to build up the park. The weather challenged the whole organisation crew to a duel again. Man power against the most massive snowfall for 7 years in Poland. We accepted the challenge with a smile in our faces, since we brought the Mediterranean easiness with us, which we had taken up at our last Stop in Grandvalira (Andorra). So the battle began… We shaped the In runs – few minutes later the sky laid a new carpet of 20 cm snow on it. We marked the drops in blue – the fresh snow repainted it in white. We laid down our tools – the powder guzzled it. We hung up the banners – the wind blew them away. But Ms Bad Weather didn’t know how much we took it serious and we struck against: With permanent shaping, cleaning and grooming together with the highly motivated local shaper crew during the whole competition.
With a pleasant atmosphere and two live DJs in the ears, we ran the contest and the Riders showed up their hottest tricks on the always fresh shaped obstacles. After two thrilling Qualification sessions the best riders got the chance to line up for the finals.
Finally it was the Polish guy Tomasz Wolak who won the Junior Boys category with a super clean Backside 540 / Cap 540 Combo on the Kicker line. Within the Junior Girls category the Polish Kasia Kwiecien showed up with a 270 on / 270 off the Picnic-table, a fresh Frontside Noseslide over the Rainbow-Box and a Backside Boardslide to Fakie on the Downrail. The Youth Boys category won Tim- Kevin Ravnjak from Slowenia with an impressive run and the Youth Girls was dominated from Katarzyna Rusin with a sweet performance.
In the dusk, the competition ended with the atmospheric Prize giving’s on the mountain and the ultimate after show party in Zakopane. In spite of the nonstop snowing, Ms Bad Weather lost that battle again and we picked and packed our stuff with a wide grin for the next stop in Tandådalen (SWE).
